Gr 3-5-This slim series entry presents an overview of woodwinds. The problem here is that the subject is glossed over, providing readers with little in-depth information about the basic construction and sound production of each instrument. The sentences are choppy, and the rambling information is not always clear. The large type gives the impression that the book is for a younger audience than the content of the text indicates. The color photos show clarinets, oboes, flutes, etc. being played by ethnically diverse children and adults. Directions are given for making pitch pipes out of plastic plumber's pipe, and are followed by instructions on how to play them. Look elsewhere for more informative sources.-Beth Irish, Orange Pub.
