Synopsis

Simple text and photographs introduce the benefits of working together to get jobs done.

Diane Carver Sekeres, Ph.D. - Children's Literature

A "Yellow Umbrella Book" for early readers, this informative book uses posed photographs to show families and professionals working in various ways. The 17-page book is divided into four parts: working faster, working more safely, working better, and working as a family. Each chapter explores one concept about work, but they do not build on one another. The text is explanatory, describing or asking questions about the scenes pictured in the photographs. These are engaging to look at—much like photos in advertisements in a magazine—and most of them relate intuitively to the text. The sentences are printed in large type, and are a bit crowded on the page. The vocabulary may have an early reader stretching to recognize words, and there is a glossary to help with meaning. 2004, Capstone Press, Ages 4 to 8.
