This is a first edition color atlas of otoscopy. The authors utilize newer advances in endoscopy as well as photography to produce this atlas. The purpose is to provide a fresh atlas in this area. The text and photographs help lead the reader through diagnosis and necessary surgical interventions. The primary audience is practitioners in otolaryngology. While this book is particularly useful to residents in this field, it would also be helpful to any practitioner or resident who examines ears, such as pediatricians and internists. This book contains excellent, clear, color photographs of most outer and middle ear disorders. The photography is outstanding. The photos are accompanied by concise descriptions, which lead the reader from diagnosis to surgical or medical management. Many of the photos are accompanied by corresponding radiographic images to enhance the textbook. This atlas is a nice addition to the field of otology. It provides clear descriptions of most of the outer and middle ear disorders encountered. The addition of radiographic studies to correspond to the endoscopic photos is a great feature. The concise descriptions of the disease process and its management make this book appealing to many practitioners.

Description: This is a quite comprehensive atlas of auricular pathology with outstanding photography.
Purpose: The purpose of this book is to describe the diagnosis and treatment of many common auricular problems in an atlas format. The objectives are sufficiently met through vivid photography of pathology.
Audience: The intended audience includes anyone who practices otoscopy — pediatricians, otolaryngologists, and general practitioners.
Features: The most common pathological findings of otoscopy are covered. The vivid photography is the greatest asset of the book.
Assessment: This book is of the highest quality and would be valuable to anyone who regularly practices otoscopy. To my knowledge, there are no comparable books.

From The Critics

Otoscopy is the visual examination (through photographic intrusion) of the tympanic membrane of the middle ear. Sanna (otolaryngology, U. of Chieti, Italy) and her colleagues cover the inflammatory, infectious, and tumor pathology of the ear, as seen through modifications of the otoscopic image. Numerous color photographs are accompanied by text describing the principle pathologic conditions: definition, nature, pathogenesis, and classification accompanied by diagrams. Where appropriate, radiographic images are juxtaposed with the otoscopic view. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
