About the Club
The Wagga Wagga Shakespeare Club, founded in 1904, has the distinction of being the oldest continuous Shakespeare reading club in the world, boasting a 120-year history. Our group of dedicated enthusiasts meets monthly in a quiet room at the Wagga Wagga library, where we immerse ourselves in the works of William Shakespeare.

The club's meetings are more than just a literary exercise; they are a joyful and convivial affair where each member, ranging from the young to the elderly, contributes to a vibrant collective reading experience, over a tradition of afternoon tea. Our shared love for Shakespeare not only connects us to the timeless themes of his plays but also to one another, fostering a sense of community in their rural setting. The members cherish the comfort and escapism that Shakespeare's works provide, finding solace and a sense of belonging in this century-old tradition.
