Stafford Cliff is a consultant and art director who has spent a lifetime working on magazines, brochures and catalogs related to interior design. In 1974 he produced the best-selling classic The House Book, one of the first design-led guides to home decorating. He is the author of more than 60 books on interior design.

But don't look for straightforward how-to decorating advice in this lavishly printed volume...The intent is purely inspirational, to spur readers to develop ideas for their own interiors based on the set pieces found on its pages. Part of what makes the book fun is the freedom with which the authors have chosen to illustrate each category; most of the interiors and details depicted in the photos are hardly stiff, art-directed showcases, but come from the homes of real, albeit imaginative individuals with highly specific quirks and preferences. And many of the photos and layouts make for sumptuous compositions in themselves, whether you're into redecorating or not.
