Synopsis

Text and pictures highlight the main events of the 1930s.

School Library Journal

Gr 5-7-- A concise look at the ' 30s, with captioned illustrations that are of equal importance to the text. Approximately 100 photographs and reproductions of posters, advertisements, etc.--many in full color or tinted--comprise the bulk of the contents; readers are given a definite impression of what the turbulent decade was like. Issues, events, and personalities in the U. S., Europe, and Asia are quickly skimmed before covering such topics as transportation, radio, movies, fashion, and sports. The brief biographies of personalities and a year-by-year listing of major events are useful additions. The book may be used to encourage students to move on to Time-Life's similarly formatted This Fabulous Century: 1930 - 1940 (1985). --David A. Lindsey, Lakewood Junior/Senior High School, WA
