Freelance film journalist Singer has been publishing his directors' guide for a decade, annually improving and expanding it to create an ideal sourcebook for budget-minded librarians. Although not as comprehensive as Alan Goble's International Film Index (Bowker, 1991), which has over 24,000 entries, this edition, besides listing the 2500-plus directors' nationalities, birthdates, and films, includes business addresses for the directors and their agents. This latter information alone makes it an essential film library acquisition. Special sections feature notable directors of the past, interviews with active filmmakers, and film commission phone numbers.
