Purpose: It is intended to be a quick reference for information concerning common respiratory complaints presenting in the office setting. With respiratory illness comprising a large part of every primary care physician's practice, such a work is clearly important.
Audience: Although written as a quick reference for busy practitioners, the book will also be very useful to medical learners at all stages of their education. Chapter authors are respected academic family physicians from a broad range of university environments.
Features: The book is logically divided into sections dealing with anatomic location of disease, as well as the acute and chronic nature of the illness. Screening and prevention are stressed, along with diagnosis and treatment. Charts and tables are efficiently used, and algorithims are logical and easy to follow. Those sections dealing with emergency mangement of respiratory illness are particularly well done.
Assessment: This short work will be quite beneficial not only as a quick reference for busy practitioners, but as a review for certification exams. Its size allows it to be authoritative without being overly burdensome with details. Its readability will appreciated by all.
