About the Author

John Mosher graduated from Princeton in Classics. After serving as a naval officer in Japan, he wrote about Japanese cultural history: Kyoto, Japanese postal activity in China, sumo, Hiraizumi. Having studied at the University of Munich, he returned to Salzburg, where he taught skiing, sang in the opera, organized business and language seminars. In 1983 he joined the U.S. government in Washington to direct overseas cultural and policy programs. He also represented the government on the U.S. Olympic Committee. In 1988, he became director of international programs at Special Olympics International, expanding its activity to some 119 nations. Among his publications are Kyoto, a Contemplative Guide and Unavoidable Germans.
