Overview

Warhurst (political science, Australian National U.) and Simms (political studies, U. of Otago, Australia) present an analytical and statistical overview of the Australian federal elections of 2001. It concludes that Prime Minister John Howard's comfortable margin of victory for his third term in office was due to a combination of international events (i.e. the "war on terror") and immigration issues. Contributors from the major parties offer their own views on the campaigns after one of the editors provides a broad overview. Local and regional campaigns are discussed. The impact of interest groups and key issues is also explored. Distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation Β©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
