Gr 3-4-Adler's text, written in a story format, gives the highlights of Lee's life and military career in chronological order. Thus, students will learn the facts and dates while enjoying the narrative. The author deals with issues such as the Civil War and slavery without going into detail. The Wallners' full-color, full-page illustrations depict battle scenes, but are not gruesome. Famous figures who interacted with Lee are quoted and illustrated in a realistic manner.
