Overview

Employing a freewheeling, almost rambling style, Schuman (U. of Massachusetts) and Wirth (Central Washington U.) present a rather unconventional introduction to political science. They hope to get readers to question some of the fundamental concepts upon which political study rests, devoting chapters to the epistemology of politics, the cultural systems of organizations and bureaucracies, the role of the economy and money, the place of voting in the American liberal state, ideology and myth, and other topics. First published in the early 1970s, it retains some of the flavor of the philosophical rebellion of the counterculture. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
