Overview
Rivera (Raza studies, San Francisco State U.) defends Liberation Discourse by examining the semantics of its political opposition and the forces underlying its discursive inconsistencies. He begins by examining the theories of Liberation Discourse posited by Freire, Gutierrez, Habermas, and Foucault, and its challenges from Derrida and others associated with postmodernism as well as its founding theorists. He then examines the frustrations of First World intellectuals as they attempt to appropriate Liberation Theory, or some portion of it they are anxious to apply to their own fixations. He then re-examines Liberation Discourse in light of transculturalization, structuralism, hermeneutics, and ideology. Annotation Β©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, ORBook Details
