Synopsis

An overview of bears throughout the world placing each species in its natural environment.

Children's Literature

How many bears could you tell about in one book? Try twelve. From the ordinary Grizzly bear to the Sloth bear, Sun bear, and even the Spectacled bear, this book is loaded with useful and interesting facts about the bear family. Were you aware that the Kodiak bear is the largest of the species growing up to ten feet in length? The Sun bear gets its name from a crescent mark on its chest said to resemble the rising sun. It is the smallest of the species weighing only about 140 pounds. Conservation of the bear is discussed in the final chapters although the reference to the addresses for these organizations was incorrect. It should have read page 46, not page 44. This was just a minor problem found in a major source of bear facts and figures. It is generous in its photos and drawings as well and wonderfully laid out. This book is part of the "Animal Watch" series.
