Overview
Willie interviews 55 African American alumnae of two universities, one predominantly white (Northwestern), and one predominantly black (Howard). What she discovers is that the college campus is sometimes the stage for an even more intense version of the racial issues in larger society. The interviewees discuss "acting white" in some situations and "acting black" in others. Willie uses their stories and stories of her own college experiences to capture the dilemmas of being black on campus.Book Details
