Synopsis
This text covers more advanced aspects of engineering mathematics that are common to all first engineering degrees, differing from other texts in its emphasis on certain topics and the development of underlying theory before applications. An opening chapter reviews mathematical prerequisites, while later chapters cover vectors and matrices, ordinary differential equations, Fourier series and integrals, vector calculus, complex analysis, partial differential equations, and numerical mathematics. Worked examples follow the introduction of each new idea. Exercise sets use computer-based solutions and hand calculations. The author is affiliated with the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
