Binary systems for the treatment of cancer are among the most attractive of the new therapeutic modalities that are currently under investigation. Neutron capture therapy (NCT) is the binary system that was the subject of the Fifth International Symposium on Neutron Capture Therapy, held in Columbus, Ohio, September 1992, under the auspices of the International Society for Neutron Capture Therapy. NCT has largely focused on the use of boron-10 as the target nuclide, and these proceedings present the advances that have been made in each of the major areas that are essential for the success of boron neutron capture therapy: neutron sources, boron delivery systems, in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate efficacy, and clinical studies and future treatment plans.
