Children's Literature

Africa is the second largest continent on Earth, half of which lies above and the other half below the equator. Due to its size and location on the planet, Africa's climate is very diverse, with some of the largest and most famous deserts found here, but it is also filled with mountains, savannas and tropical forests. The plants and animals found in Africa are among the most unique and beautiful on the planet. Recent trends against hunting and protection of endangered plants and animals have resulted in several reserves being established throughout the continent and also make Africa a popular tourist attraction. Over 800 ethnic groups are found in Africa, making the culture of this continent one of the most diverse on Earth. This first look at the geography of Africa is informative and easy to read. Sidebars of trivia and additional facts appear throughout, along with full color photos, although only two maps are presented. Words appearing in bold are defined in the glossary at the end of the text. Also included are an index, additional sources to consult, an African Almanac, and important dates in the history of Africa. Part of the "Geography of the World Series." 2004, The Child's World, Ages 7 to 10.
