Overview
Furley (formerly politics and history, Coventry U., UK) and May (African studies, Coventry U., UK) present 13 papers that explore the emerging issues of African states' use of military means to effect change in development in neighboring states. With the exception of three introductory papers looking at issues of international law and African military capabilities, the papers are all case studies looking at the effects of interventions on both the interveners and the victims of intervention. Case studies include examinations of Tanzaniàs military intervention in Uganda, Angola, Ethiopia and Eritrea, the Sudan, Rwandàs intervention in Zaire in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, and Guinea-Bissau. A final chapter looks at the privatization of military forces in the region as the growth of new breed of mercenary. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)Book Details
