This 45 page biography is full of vivid photographs and interesting information about one of America's famous naturalists who was a leader in wildlife conservation. While performing as the Forest Deputy Supervisor, Aldo was diagnosed with nephritis, a kidney disease that almost killed him. When he was able to return to work, he was offered an office job. Being indoors was not what he wanted, and ultimately, he was able to turn this into an opportunity that provided him the time to put all his energies into protecting wilderness. After several years, his illness returned, and he was forced to make another big change in his life. This change eventually led him to saving land in the Gila National Forest. The Gila Wilderness Area became the first officially protected wilderness region in a national forest. Young people who enjoy nature and have an interest in conservation will enjoy this book.
