Overview
Alfred Jarry's marionette play, Ubu Roi, caused a sensation when it debuted on the Paris stage in 1896. In this study Fell considers the work of this subversive French dramatist, paying particular attention to his creative output in the years just prior to this event. Reproductions of Jarry's woodcuts illustrate the volume. The text is based upon the author's 1997 doctoral dissertation at the U. of Kent at Canterbury.
