Overview

Are you ready for a new way to learn the alphabet? This isn’t your average A B C’s. Those of you who remember, “She sells seashells by the seashore”, will enjoy this book immensely. A twist has been added to the basic “A is for apple” that will make learning the alphabet crazy fun. Alliteration has been used for each letter of the alphabet. Alliteration is the repetition of initial consonant sounds in two or more neighboring words.
According to UNESCO Endangered Languages it is estimated that, if nothing is done, half of 6000 plus languages spoken today will disappear by the end of this century. With the disappearance of unwritten and undocumented languages, humanity would lose not only a cultural wealth but also important ancestral knowledge embedded, in particular, in indigenous languages.
A number of these languages belong to the Natives of North America. The White Mountain or Western Apache Tribe consists of approximately 15,000 members, most of which live on a 1.67 million acre reservation in east-central Arizona. In this land their ancestors learned to be Ndee – The People.
In addition to this group, there are the following Apache nations: The Chiricahua, Mescalero, Jicarrilla, Lipan, and Kiowa-Apache peoples. Though there are different languages, history, and culture, they are also related to each other.
Creations by Crouch is making an attempt to produce bilingual books that will not only assist people in learning the language of their choice, but also to preserve (in some small way) languages that are in danger of becoming extinct. I was fortunate to find a native speaker from the White Mountain Apache Culture Center who was kind enough to translate this book for all of you.
It is not uncommon to find words in your language or the language the book is being translated into that do not translate. This was the case in this book. There are no words for animals not of the Apache homeland and some concepts/ideas do not exist in their language. Where there is no translation it is noted throughout the book.
Thank you for your purchase and I hope you find the book enjoyable.
