Using a diverse set of successful alternative programs as case examples, professionals who have been involved directly in the organization and development of alternative social programs explain the complicated process of planning and implementing new agencies. Alternative social agencies have emerged over the past two decades in response to a variety of needs not being met by older established agencies, but their survival is often limited.
