Synopsis

Join Amelia on a year full of fifth-grade adventures, from stealing the show in the Thanksgiving play, to unravelling a Valentine's mystery, to being a junior bridesmaid!

Children's Literature

Amelia, the notebook expert, has a yearlong project: She will keep a notebook of days and try to decide if there are more good days or bad days in a year. Each season begins with a list of things she likes and dislikes about that time of year. She likes pumpkins in fall, toe socks in winter, playing outside in spring, and carnivals in summer. She dislikes raking leaves in fall, getting sick in winter, stepping in mud in spring, and mosquito bites in summer. Throughout the year, Amelia also describes particular activities, such as baby-sitting, acting in the school play, and being a junior bridesmaid. She examines the good and bad things about each major event in her life that year, including lots of doodles illustrating the events. Amelia is always very honest about her feelings in the journal, offering a very realistic and amusing trip through fifth grade and the seasons.
