Overview
Equally valuable for American literature and drama scholars and students, the American Drama Criticism series is a mainstay work for public, secondary school and college reference libraries. The series as a whole currently covers over 100 years of published material, and each volume lists references to American plays published in books, periodicals, and monographs for a specified period of time. Playwrights are indexed alphabetically, with listings of articles by or about them first, followed by listings of articles about each one of their plays.
Supplement IV shows the influence of social change in the theater, with more new plays about or by minorities, about AIDS-related issues, or "cybertech" plays with interactive computer technology.
Editorials
Booknews
The 4th supplement to the second edition listing references to American plays published in books, periodicals, and audiovisual materials through 1993. The articles cited were not considered for quality, but rather by virtue of not having appeared in a previous volume of the series. The entries are listed by playwright's name, followed by specific work and references, and are carefully indexed by title, author, critic, journal, book, and audiovisual material. The supplement reflects the range of American contemporary drama, including feminist criticism, ethnic studies, and examinations of gay and lesbian plays. Annotation c.
