The special relationship between Britain and the United States has attracted much attention from historians; this book, in connection with a PBS series, synthesizes work on the topic for general readers and brings the story up to date. The authors have studied diplomatic and political relations, as well as links between the two countries' business and social worlds. This century has seen America's rise and Britain's decline; Britain has usually needed America more than America has needed Britain, but with Britain's pull toward Europe and this country's economic decline the future remains uncertain.
