From The Critics

Reviewer: Donald R. Jacobson, PhD(Medical College of Wisconsin)
Description: This book reviews essential human anatomy and physiology for students and radiologic technologists. Each chapter deals with a specific organ system and ends with a list of important pathologies and review questions.
Purpose: In the author's words, the purpose is "to provide a comprehensive review textbook in radiographic anatomy and physiology." This is a worthy objective. A concise anatomy/physiology/pathology review does fulfill an ongoing need of the student and this book accomplishes the stated goal.
Audience: According to the author, it is written for "all levels of students and radiographers." This book is part of a series on essentials of medical imaging, which is edited by Dr. Stewart Bushong. It is written at a level appropriate for the intended audience. The author is qualified.
Features: Essential anatomy/physiology/pathology is presented for radiographic review. A large quantity of information is presented in 150 (one-half page columns) pages. The artwork (black-and-white line drawings only) is good and supports the purpose. There is no index or glossary, and the bibliography, although short, is adequate. From a spot check on the review questions, one error was found. Some of the terminology and definitions used differ from those that are most commonly used in teaching anatomy and physiology to radiographic technology students.
Assessment: This is a useful book; I found no book in our library to compare it with. It is less than an anatomy and physiology textbook, but more than the typical compact anatomy atlas. It is a good review text and presents a large quantity of information in a relatively compact volume. The practice questions afford additional value to the student facing a competency exam.
