Gr 4-6-Slim surveys that highlight a wide range of art forms found in these broad cultural groups. On two-page spreads, Press looks at rock art, basketry, wood carving, stone sculpture, textiles, sand paintings, and more. The discussions concentrate on geographical areas with a few references to individual tribes. Shuter explains briefly how Chinese artists worked 3000 years ago, the materials and techniques they used, and the role of religion in their creations. Topics covered include painting, bronzes, calligraphy, terracotta, lacquer and jade, and architecture. The format and depth of information are similar to that of Native American. In both titles, sidebars shed light on related topics and each type of art form is illustrated with at least one clear, full-color photograph or reproduction. Each book includes instructions for a craft activity.
