Children's Literature
Angelina Ballerina, the charming young mouse, is set for a new adventure. All through the winter, she has been longing for the day of the May Day Fair, looking forward to the exciting rides. But her parents insist that she take her little cousin Henry along. Despite his fears, Angelina takes him along as she enjoys two rides on the Ferris wheel and one on the roller coaster. She ignores his wish for a balloon and a ride on the merry-go-round. Then, when she takes him inside the Haunted House, she loses him. Upset, she begins to cry, until she spots him. Then, she is happy to buy him a balloon in his favorite color and ride the merry-go-round three times, for a happy ending. Craig s watercolor-tinted detailed, fine line drawings describe the many attractions of the fair and the crowds of anthropomorphic mice in attendance. It is easy to get caught in the mixed emotions of zipping down the roller coaster: joy for Angelina and terror for Henry. The extra glittering inlays on the jacket add appeal to the happy anticipation of the two as they approach the ice cream stand. Reviewer: Ken Marantz and Sylvia Marantz
