Often when something is looked at from a different angle, close up or without seeing the whole, it is not recognizable. In this book, kids are encouraged to look at what is briefly described and then to look again by turning the page. This book opens with a close up view of a snake's head, turning the page reveals more information about the creature and its nose/nostrils. Interesting facts about dogs, weevils, moths, elephants, and owls, and how they use their noses to pick up scents and breath make up the content of this book. Toward the end of the book, kids are once again presented with the images and asked to identify the animal--answers appear on the next page. There is a glossary, a page devoted to activities, an index, and list of additional books, videos and web sites (there are no publication dates given for the books and most of them are from the publisher--Gareth Stevens). Part of the "A Springboards into Science" series. 2000, Gareth Stevens, Ages 4 to 6, $19.93. Reviewer: Marilyn CourtotBook Details
