Children's Literature

Do you have a dog at home that greets you at the door when you return from work or school? How does that dog know it is you at the other side of the door and not a stranger? Can he identify you by your smell? Does that make him smart, or is he just acting on instinct? Male elephants leave the herd when they are adults, but female elephants stay with the herd they were born in all their lives. How do they learn all the tasks it takes to be a member of the herd? Do they just slow down instinctively when one elephant is injured and must walk more slowly? Do animals talk to each other, and if so, can we learn their language? All of these questions and more are presented in this book. Not all of the questions are answered, but enough information is given to pique the interest of the elementary and middle school child.
