Gr 4-7-- A brief history and overview of the subject. Nottridge discusses the different types and styles of animation and includes films from various countries. Terms found in the glossary appear in the text in bold. Full-color cartoon stills illustrate most pages. This is an interesting and informative introduction to animated movies and film criticism in general. However, given the book's 1992 copyright date, it is surprising that there is no mention of Disney's Beauty and the Beast (1991) or The Little Mermaid (1989), both of which are sure to become classics in the field. --Florence M.
