School Library Journal
Gr 2-3-A simplistic series designed to meet the informational needs of fledgling readers and to provide science fodder for the whole-language curriculum. Similar in scope and reading level to the more handsome entries in the "Discovering Dinosaurs" series (Bridgestone), Goecke's texts are comprised of simple sentences and rather modest artwork. One illustration depicts a Diplodocus dragging its tail along the ground and another shows the Ankylosaurus wearing overly large lateral spikes. The terse texts can be confusing, particularly when delving into "family trees" (a diagram here would be especially helpful). All in all, these titles will circulate because of their high-interest topics, but there are better choices already sitting on your shelves.-Patricia Manning, formerly at Eastchester Public Library, NY Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
