Overview
One such trailblazer is Anne Frank, a Jewish teenager living in the Netherlands whose writing gave millions their first intimate encounter with the Holocaust. Although Frank and her family hid from the Nazis during World War II, they were eventually found, and Frank died in a concentration camp. She left behind a diary, however, and for readers around the world, it has provided a moving account of one young person's courageous struggle to keep alive her hopes and dreams in the face of great danger.A biography of Anne Frank, including the historical events which forced her to hide with her family in an attic in Nazi-occupied Holland for two years.

Children's Literature
One of the things that strikes me about Anne Frank's life was her wish to become a famous writer. She accomplished in death what she was not allowed to achieve in life. The events that took place during Hitler's reign and the fortitude the Frank family had to survive are remarkable. If they hadn't been betrayed by someone they might have survived the war in their attic hiding place. Once they were discovered, Anne and her family and friends, eight in all, were sent to prison camp. It was another dark time in our history. They all died in the prison camp except Mr. Frank. Because someone had saved her diary, her father was able to publish it and since then plays and movies have also been made based on her diary.
