Applied Academics for Haefner/Leathers' Automotive Technology: For General Service Technicians

The Applied Academics Workbook to Accompany Automotive Technology for General Service Technicians supplements the text with activities that build mathematics, science and communications skills. Each of the 54 activity sheets (one per chapter) references the appropriate NATEF Narratives for Related Academic Skills and uses realistic automotive service examples. The Applied Academics Workbook can also be used to facilitate communication between academic teachers and Automotive Technology teachers. Automotive teachers can use the activities in the Workbook to show the application of the specific academic areas within the Auto Tech curriculum. Academic instructors can see how academic skills can be applied in the context of Automotive Technology.

Ron Haefner teaches automotive technology at Columbus High School in Columbus, Nebraska. He earned two bachelor of science degrees, one in industrial technology and the other in industrial education, as well as a master of science in industrial education. As an automotive instructor, Haefner's record is exceptional — his students have been winners of manufacturer-sponsored state and national skills contests on nine separate occasions. Haefner also wrote The Car Care Book, Third Edition (Thomson Delmar Learning, 2004).
