This book is a comprehensive calculation guide for nurses in need of remediation and the adult learner returning to the work force, It can be utilized for self-study or in a dosage calculation course. The preferred scientific problem-solving approach, dimensional analysis, is utilized throughout hnads-on activities and applied examples.

This is a dosage and calculation book based on dimensional analysis. The structure is similar to all dosage and calculation books in that there is a mathematics pretest followed by review of basics and dimensional analysis. The purpose is to provide students with comprehensive problem-solving and computation skills. The authors focus is on written work and calculator non-dependent learning. There was no clear statement of objectives but each chapter has learning objectives that are completely met. This book is written for the student and graduate nurse. The writing style makes it appropriate for all in allied health education. This would be an appropriate book for beginning students who need an in-depth review. A basic review of mathematics with a good review of exponents and scientific notation, which ties into reading lab values, is provided. There are sections that cover molarity, logarithms, and PH that are not necessary to the nursing student but are covered well. I did like the small section on computerized documentation and the section on apothecary measurement. The CD-ROM did not include any new content and had little interactivity in the screen design. The tests were good and could be used for the students to test themselves. This text provides an in-depth math review as well as household, apothecary, and metric systems. It also provides dimensional analysis in a complete manner that leaves no questions to the learner. Similar books, such as Nasrawi's Quick & Easy Dosage Calculations: Using Dimensional Analysis (W.B. Saunders, 1999), do not provide as in-depth a review in some areas and that may make the text longer to complete for the learner. This text has very little color.One item I did not see included was the formula for calculating BSA. The authors are still showing nomograms to calculate this function.
