Overview

Apprentice to Power is the true story of a prominent psychotherapist and her life-transforming journey as she learns to find her point of view. She learns to stand her ground and reclaim her personal power under the tutelage of best-selling author and shaman Lynn V. Andrews and the wise teachings of the Sisterhood of the Shields. Journey with marriage and family therapist Jennifer Morse as she moves through her misadventures in a failing marriage to arrive at wisdom and the beginnings of a new life. As Lynn's apprentice, Jennifer learns to strip away the delusions accumulated through a lifetime of social and personal conditioning. Confrontation, shamanic ceremonies, and meditations are some of the tools Lynn uses to initiate a new depth of understanding regarding Jennifer's abusive relationship and guide her toward a living center of truth. The results are startling and uncomfortable, poignant and inspiring. Apprentice to Power also shows how Jennifer takes the shamanic practices learned in her work with Lynn and translates them into her own transformational work with clients.

A family therapist who combines traditional and shamanic principles in her healing therapies, Morse here offers her life teachings as example, inspiration, and instruction. Though she was already a trained therapist, it was only under the guidance of prolific author and shaman Lynn Andrews that Morse journeyed from the powerlessness of an abusive relationship to a state of spiritual enlightenment. Now, when observing her patients, Morse is able to see her own life mirrored in theirs. Here she recommends the use of ceremonies as well as prayer as important tools in the healing process. Part of one ceremony, for example, includes making an anger doll and a grief doll to dissipate emotions. While it may not win over new converts, this readable personal story is recommended wherever Andrews's books are popular.Lisa S. Wise, Broome Cty. P.L., Binghamton, N.Y.
