Overview

ESRI(R) ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit is a platform for building stand-alone GIS applications which include the access to advanced GIS objects using mulitple Application Programming Interfaces (API's). ArcGIS Engine provides the framework for developers to create focused GIS applications that can be executed as stand-alone applications or deployed inside of ArcGIS(TM) Desktop products β€” ArcInfo(TM), ArcEditor(TM), and ArcView(R), or connect to remote ArcGIS Server objects. The entire ArcGIS system is built and extended using software components called ArcObjects. ArcObjects are at the core of all the ArcGIS products: ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Engine, and ArcGIS Server.
This book provides a general explanation for building and deploying custom applications and solutions using the ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit. Several scenarios will illustrate some of the different types of applications that can be developed using the ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit.
You will learn how to:
Understand and work with the objects exposed in ArcGIS Engine.
Build Graphical User Interface (GUI) applications.
Build stand-alone command line applications.
Develop with all the supported API's.
License and deploy your completed applications.
This book is very helpful and is where anyone who wants to leverage the capabilities of the ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit should begin. After reading through this book, developers should be able to build and deploy stand-alone GIS applications using any of the supported API's.
