Synopsis
In his introduction to the field, Edwards, an art therapist for over 20 years, situates art therapy in its historical and cultural context and in its relationship to the visual arts, psychiatry and psychoanalysis. Using illustrated case histories, he discusses the theoretical foundation of art therapy and its training and practice. Although the focus is on practice in the UK, Edwards also describes art therapy in Europe, the US and Canada. The text includes a detailed bibliography and resources section.
