Overview

This book is for every flower painter who has ever wasted hours searching through books and magazines for good reference photos...only to be disappointed that the photos you do find are out of focus, poorly lit or lack important detail. Artist Gary Greene knows the frustration. That's why Gary - also a professional photographer - created this book. It contains 500+ reference photos of flowers, all taken with the special needs of the artist in mind. You'll find excellent photos of 49 flowers - favorite blooms along with some more unusual ones - arranged alphabetically, from Amaryllis to Zinnia. Each flower is shown in a large primary photo, along with side views and close-ups of petal, leaves and other details. Also included is brief information on scale, color variations and other facts to help you paint. Five step-by-step demonstrations in a variety of mediums show how you can use these reference photos to create beautiful floral paintings.

Library Journal

While writing an earlier book, Creating Radiant Flowers in Colored Pencil (North Light, 1997), Greene couldn't find a suitable botanical book for an artist's reference source. The result is this book of more than 500 photos of nearly 50 types of flowers. For each flower, Greene provides a primary photo, side views, and closeups of petals, leaves, and other details. Captions on color variations and scale and five painting illustrations complete this highly successful, highly recommended book.
