Having grown up on a large tract of boreal forest and wetland, Mia Pelletier was a student of the Canadian wilderness from a young age. She later studied ecology and went on to become a field biologist, working with rare plants and animals and exploring and living in many wild places throughout the world, including the Magdalen Islands, the California Sierra and southwest desert, South America, Europe, and Asia. She relocated to Baffin Island to work with the eastern Arctic seabird program, where she now spends her summers at various field research sites throughout the Canadian Arctic archipelago and her winters working with a small Inuit community to help develop management plans for adjacent protected areas.
