In the grassy landscape of the Serengeti plains, a baby elephant is born. He doesn't know anything about predators or poachers. He is only concerned with playing with his cousins and exploring his surroundings. In this book, Lang gives a simple account of the day to day life of a baby elephant. She touches on different aspects of elephant life including family structure and survival skills, without making the book seem like a science textbook. She also gives this particular elephant its own personality, as if it were a family friend. The text is accompanied by beautiful photographs showing the baby in his natural habitat. This is a cute little book for children just discovering science. While some of the foreign words may be hard to pronounce and some passages may be hard for early readers, the story will still be interesting and children will be eager to read it.
