Author Biography: Carol Spencer: Once might say that Carol Spencer's life work has been the Barbie doll. Carol's design career began with honors in the fashion industry 45 years ago. In 1963, she joined Mattel Toys as a Barbie doll designer. Throughout her career, Carol has created more fashion designs for Barbie doll than any other person. Recently, Carol retired from Mattel as Chief Barbie Designer following 36 award winning years designing for Barbie and inspiring children's dreams. Her expertise was invaluable in compiling information and photographs for this book.
Robert Opie: Collector Robert Opie has studied the history of consumer products for more than 30 years. As the son of Iona and Peter Opie, the authorities on children's lore and literature, he has a special interest in toys and games. His collection extends to all aspects of children's play, including the history of dolls. He has gathered together many of the vintage dolls, outfits, and accessories that appear in this book.
