Over the years, thousands of libraries have relied on A Basic Music Library to build and assess their music collections. Now, more than a decade since the last edition appeared, the Music Library Association has prepared a landmark Third Edition, listing some 7,000 recordings and 3,000 printed scores, with entries coded for different levels of collecting.Including sound recordings for the first time, A Basic Music Library is a one-stop source for identifying significant printed music and sound performances in all genres. The 10,000 indexed entries, selected by experts in dozens of specialized areas of music, comprise the most authoritative collection development and assessment tool in music for libraries of any size. The resource also serves musicians, music lovers and collectors, and music groups in your community.
Printed scores cover music for all instruments, voices, and ensembles. Entries include anthologies, study scores, performing editions, vocal scores, and instrumental methods and studies.
The new Sound Recordings section lists some 2,000 recordings of Western classical music, Medieval to Modem, and almost 5,000 selections of traditional and popular music worldwide.
Supplier sources are given, and special indexes cite music by black composers and by women composers. The sturdy 8-1/2 x 11 clothbound volume will be sure to stand up to staff or public use.
