Overview

Basta! is an investigation of the Zapatista rebellion in Chiapas, and the social tensions, land struggles, ethnic conflict, and cruel government that created the rebellion. With a new afterword by the author about Chiapas today and its successes and failures.

Synopsis

Collier (anthropology, Stanford U.) has studied peasant agriculture in the highlands of southern Mexico since the early 1960s. Here, with the help of a journalist and a rural development specialist, he describes the changes in the economy that led to the 1994 uprising, and the nature and course of the rebellion. To the 1994 edition he has added a substantial epilogue bringing his account up to 1999, and a supplemental bibliography note. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
