Overview

Serbo-Croatian, also called Serbo-Croat, was spoken in four of the six republics in the former Yugoslavia. It continues to be spoken in those geographical and political units, though there are slight variations in the vocabulary. Beginner's Serbo-Croatian is therefore an invaluable resource for students, businesspersons, and tourists traveling in Serbia and Montenegro, as well as Croatia and Bosnia.

Each lesson begins with a Serbo-Croatian conversation with side-by-side English translation, followed by an itemized vocabulary list, an explanation of expressions used, a section on grammar, and a listing of useful phrases. A set of exercises designed to familiarize the reader with the grammar and vocabulary introduced conclude the lesson. Introductory chapters on the history and culture of the region complement this volume.
