Overview
In an outgrowth of a research project originally undertaken at Paris University VII, French, American, Danish, and German scholars explore the theory and practice of intellectual and cultural exchange, transfer, or friction, between Britain and mainly France during the long 18th century. They are more concerned with the complexities than the self-evidence of what is often referred to quit vaguely as Enlightenment culture. Their broad themes are gardens, pictures, and music; the periodical essay and philosophy; and drama, poetry, and fiction. Distributed in the US by Associated University Presses.
