Editorials

Publishers Weekly

Editor and photographer Tourtillott has rounded up 27 jewelry designers and wrangled from them a wide variety of designs with detailed instructions on realizing them. There is something here for every level of crafter who works with beads and wire, from simple drop earrings to elaborately wire-wrapped pendants and decoratively linked chains. The strong suit of this book—like other Lark publications—is the accompanying close-up photographs and comprehensive illustrations. An introductory chapter on the many different tools and techniques used throughout is also very helpful, and some are sure to be new to even highly experienced jewelry makers. The section on techniques might be skimpy—only four pages—for the newest of beginners, but the clear, detailed instructions for each project should steer them right. This is a book whose projects will keep crafters engaged and challenged and should lead them forward in their own designs. (Apr.)

Library Journal

This collection of 40 projects by 26 different jewelry designers primarily features focal beads combined with metal wire. Tourtillott's (Making Beautiful Beads: Glass, Metal, Polymer Clay, Fiber; Expectant Little Knits) projects include a variety of earrings, bracelets, necklaces, pendants, and rings in styles ranging from bold and bright to soft and romantic. Most of the projects require basic tools that most jewelry makers will have in their collection, but some of the more complex projects require additional metalworking tools. VERDICT Both novice and intermediate jewelry makers will appreciate the variety of designs, as well as the clear, step-by-step directions.
