Synopsis
Beyond Discipline takes the position that parents can prevent a lot of potential problems by encouraging their children to develop several "survival skills." These skills include self-quieting skills (which are needed to deal with frustration and disappointment as well as sleep onset) and independent play (which correlates very highly with adjustment during the adolescent years).
