Synopsis

With this handbook of Biblical Internet sources, readers can locate some 3,300 Web sites related to Biblical studies. Sites listed offer English and non-English Bible translations, downloadable Bibles, audio Bibles and hymns, Greek, Hebrew, and other ancient language resources, Bible study aids such as reference works and commentaries on specific books of the Bible, information on Bible doctrine and interpretation, and Bible-related study materials outside the scriptures, including pseudo-authoritative writings, non-Christian Jewish writings, ancient gentile writings, orthodox and heretical church-related writers, and archaeological, historical, and related materials. Worth is an author who has written books on WWII. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Library Journal

Intended as a guide for the average Internet user, this work should save valuable research time and prevent aimless searching. Worth (Church, Monarch and Bible in Sixteenth Century England) provides multiple locations for Bible translations (English and non-English), downloadable Bibles, audio Bibles, and hymns, as well as language resources, commentaries, and related study materials. However, the overall presentation has breadth but not depth. Worth does not address issues of bias, currency, or authenticity with relation to any of these sites; all URLs are sparely presented without editorial comment. These also tend to be heavily Protestant resources a quick peak at the index reveals that neither "Catholic" nor "Vatican" are listed anywhere, even though The Catholic Encyclopedia and various encyclical and ecclesiastical documents dealing with biblical topics are available on the web. Nor does Worth provide any introductory material on how one might search for biblical works or even a comparison of search engine efficiency in relation to biblical topics. Still, given its limitations (most glaring of which is the ephemeral nature of the web itself), this should provide librarians and dedicated researchers with useful bookmarks.
